Perseverance is failing nineteen times and succeeding the twentieth.

The struggle to attain ration cards and birth certificates for our children and families continues. Social Worker / Teacher Anil attends monthly meetings of an NGO who’s main focus is in this area. He had built a great relationship with them and is hopeful that our client’s work will be addressed within the next few meetings. More than likely it will be a very long process of filing the papers and then following up as much as possible until the papers are granted.

Volunteer News—India and Canada

After Vanessa left in early June, we were lucky to have Collette (Ontario) and Jamie (Alberta) join us.

Jamie had an amazing energy about her and was completely open to any task and any person. Her openness got her into some trouble in the outside world, but in the One! world it meant that the children were instantly attached to her and sharing in love of life.

Colette had a huge heart. The way that she interacted with the children was as if they were her own. She grew attached to all of the children and just couldn’t leave when she was scheduled to. We were lucky to have her stay for an extra couple of weeks!

Sisters, Jen and Robbie joined us for a couple of weeks in July. They gathered donations before they left and worked hard in Nallasopara despite the heat. Both struggled with adjusting but when with the children no one would have known. They were an integral part of the registration process in Nallasopara.

In Canada, we have had new additions to our hard-working fundraising and marketing team. Joining Marilyn and Julie are: Helen, Chris, Justine, Alysha, Patrick, Amy, Alex, and Erica. 6 members of the ten person team have spent time with our children in India. A special thank you to Marilyn and Julie for their seemingly endless commitment to the children of One! and for spreading their seemingly endless amounts of love.

Babies, Babies, Babies...

Two of our client staff added to their families in the last two months.

Sunita (mother of Radha 6, Chetan 4, and Anand, 2) gave birth to a beautiful girl Sanjana on the 1st of June (in the above picture with volunteer Colette). Her and her husband are very happy to now have a balanced family. They both say that they don’t want any more children...let’s see!! Fatima gave birth to her 10th child on the 20th of July. Yes! You didn’t read that wrong.

Fatima gave one child up for adoption but is busy raising 8 of new son Aarman’s siblings—Reshma 19, Bismilla 17, Dilshaad 15, Mallika 13, Rukshar 10, Saif 8, Mallika 6, and Shabnam 2. Fatima struggled in giving birth to Aarman and the doctor’s warned her against having another child for her own safety. She has been talking about going in for an operation but let’s hope she doesn’t wait too long.
