Aerodynamically a bumblebee shouldn’t be able to fly, but the bumblebee doesn’t know that so it goes on flying anyway.

Extra Special Donations
We are so very fortunate with the generosity of so many people. Having said that though, there are always the inspiring creative gifts which require a little extra.
We have talked about six year old Zoryana who asked friends and family to donate school items in lieu of birthday presents.
This time it is Harper Wall who needs special recognition. For her ninth birthday she requested financial donations be made to One! Harper raised $445 for the work in India.
Taylor, in New York, designed, made and sold her own special purses and raised over $350 for One!

Grand Gala!
|
|
THANK YOU
We were truly overwhelmed by the support of the greater Edmonton community for the Gala and more importantly the work of One! International in Mumbai. Over 300 people came out to support Tania’s dream.
Global TV and especially Omni TV were very generous in coverage of the event, before and after.
The words of our guest speaker Anu Bhavana from the Mahatma Gandhi Foundation For world Peace were truly inspiring. He congratulated all those who support One! and compared the work to that done by Gandhi.
Many of our longstanding friends attended the event held on Thursday January 23, 2009, but those friends brought out new friends. The tradition of music, dance, excellent food, and focus on One! children was maintained. The One! family was expanded.
We were worried in 2008 when starting our second school at Nallasopara. We were concerned about our ability to sustain the added growth and maintain the quality of services at both schools. .
The Gala exceeded our goal and we raised over $14,000.
We can now continue to expand the 2nd school to the standards of the first, and meet extra demands such as Parvrati’s medical needs.

Committee Congratulations!!
|
|
It was May 2008 when the Marketing/Fundraising Committee began in earnest to discuss the idea of having a large fundraiser—a Gala.
Could we attract a sufficient number of people to make it work? Could we get the needed support from the community? Did we have enough volunteers? Etcetera
We could. We did. We had.
It was a huge success.
There are always so many people to thank, especially for something like a Gala. We need to give extra special thanks to the committee members Julie, Helen, Alysha, Amy, Alex, Erica, Marilyn; and special thanks for the additional help of Chris, Justine and Patrick.

Thanks also needs to go out to the table captains who sold over 300 tickets: Julie, Helen, Alysha, Amy & Alex, Erica, Marilyn, Diane, Donna, Chris, Vijay, Katharine, Kathleen, Ashley, Niru, Colleen, Betty, Phil & Alice, Chris & Glenda, Linda Lee, Lorette, Sonia, and Gandhi FWP.
Thank you to all those who supported the Silent Auction by donating over 60 items and those who were successful bidders.
Thanks to our extra volunteers: Courtney, Analiese, Aditya, dancer Aasttha, emcee Kathleen, speaker Anu, and our two large sponsors Meridian Banquets and H&W Produce.
