Planning the Big Night

The biggest night in One! International thus far is coming up very fast - of course we are talking about the first fundraising activity of One! - the traditional Indian entertainment and dinner at 6:30pm on April 7th in Acacia Hall - 10433 83 Avenue.

The support for this event has already been incredible. Ticket sales are less than ten away from selling out the event. For this we must give huge thanks to Corrina Jackson, Edd Makarus, Marilyn Spilchen, Colleen Woltjen and Tara Woltjen.

Volunteers have been busily making ‘Aloo Tikkis’ (potato snacks) and planning the program of the evening. After all the effort that has gone into it, it should prove to be an educational and of course fun time!

As for dinner! We need to thank the following grocery stores for their very generous donations of flour, dahl (lentils) and spices:
J.B. Cash and Carry Foods Ltd. , India SuperMarket
      Spice Center
      All India Superstore

To snatch the last tickets to the event, contact Tania Spilchen:
phone: 467-6254    or    email: OneMumbai1@aol.com.

The evening should prove to be filled with good food, good fun and good entertainment!

Tania (me!), one step away from insanity (too much stress!)...or is she already there????
All you have to do is DREAM!

In this article, I am going to try to explain the direction that I hope One! will follow, and my dreams. In the last newsletter I explained where One! International came from, but not exactly what it was! Maybe we should do that!!

One! International is a non-governmental, non-sectarian, non-profit organization aimed toward aiding street children in Mumbai, India. This will be help mostly in terms of education and activities, but also in terms of health and nutrition where needed.

There were a lot of ‘non’s in that title. Basically, One! International is a group of people who want to give and have no ulterior motive and expect nothing in return. So far so good, the response and of people saying ‘what can I do?’ has been almost overwhelming!

One! will first work with the children in private classes. Likely aimed toward literacy and seeing where that leads. It is important to get the children involved in the political and social procedures of society also, so it is a must for the children to start attending the public schools.

Life is a beautiful thing, and despite wealth or caste or gender or - everyone should still be given the opportunities to enjoy it for what it is truly worth. So that will always be one of One!’s focuses - to make SMILES!! Be it through education or through hygiene lessons or through outings to the park or to any other place, we hope to spread a little joy and a few more opportunities to help make life a little easier!

IF you haven't been to India in some time
- or never...
Here is a taste of what it has got!!!
