Aga Khan Inspiration
On April 30, 2001, Pallavi Metkari and
Tania Spilchen met with Nazir Javer and
one of his associates in Mumbai, both
members of the Aga Khan Foundation.
Nazir and his company are very successful
in both India and Canada. He has not only
been successful in business, as he has set
up a school for hundreds of students in
southern Gujarat.
Meeting with him and his associate was
not only good to make valuable contacts,
but was thoroughly inspiring. We learned
that if you work at something you will
succeed and that we seemed to be on the
right track with our goals and our dreams.
Thank you for your support which we hope
will continue in the future!

Thank-You! Thank-You! Thank-You!

The first One! Fundraiser turned out
to be a phenomenal success. I don’t
think that there was one person involved
who wasn’t surprised at how smoothly
it turned out!
There was a few minor mishaps in the
kitchen, but the recovery must have
been well done as the dinner received
nothing but rave reviews.
Following dinner the program was as
follows: 1) a very amateur dance by
Ashley Kumar, Ruby Sharma and Ashima,
Dora and Sheila Gangophadhyay, Tara
Woltjen and myself,
|

|
2) a very informative dance powerpoint
created by Ashley, 3) definitely the
highlight of the night - a professional
performance by Ashley herself! and 4)
information about One!.
A huge thank you must go out to everyone
who came out and sponsored One!; the
attendance reached over 90!
More thank yous go out to the kitchen help:
Taryn Delaney, Kyle Anderson, Tara, Colleen
Woltjen, Cathy Mutter, Ruby and Ashima,
Marilyn Spilchen,

Where do we Start?
|
|
When we had our first meeting together
(Pallavi Metkari and I, (Tania Spilchen)
on April 28th 2001, we had a lot of goals
and a lot of dreams and millions of ideas...
but ‘where do we start?’.
We organized what we most wanted to accom-
|

|
plish. The first step, we decided,
was meeting with the families of Khar
Danda and getting to know them - facts,
fictions, dreams, aspirations.
Unfortunately, they didn’t have many
dreams because there would be no
chance of
|

|
them coming true.
We decided that we wanted to help them
dream, and more importantly help them
gain the tools needed to reach their
dream.
Literacy classes began one week later!
