The best teacher lodges an intent not in the mind but in the heart.

HUGE THANKS!!!

1) Mr. Javer and Mr. Chatur for bringing a very heavy bag of special paper, and books, and games, and pens, and maps, and… The kids (especially Pallavi) were ecstatic!

2) Another huge thanks to Tracey & Beverley Jackson who made a very large donation. We used their donation for a water purifier (yippee—clean water) and a pressure cooker (Deepa the cook is very happy!!!) .

The Search...

By now, you shouldn’t be all too surprised to hear that our application for a school classroom has still not passed inspection and that we are still waiting...argh! I have been asking Pallavi every day to give me one, but unfortunately she just doesn’t have that power!...and by all the people we have talked to, we are not exactly sure who does.

A ‘nice’ lady from the BMC (gov’t department) came and looked at our work only a week ago and seemed impressed with what we were doing and especially surprised at where we were doing it. She said “You guys are doing good work, I will definitely give you a classroom.”

So then where is it?

Well, from her, the paper has to be passed to her boss, and then to his boss...and to who knows how many bosses on top of that. We have been told one-week, but with how many times we have heard that we won’t hold our breath.

It is hard not to get our hopes up, and in our dreams, I think we have arranged the classroom in 20 different ways to test what is best, and taught over a hundred classes...Some day soon, maybe it won’t be a dream…

Teaching in the huts. Do we all agree it might be a little cramped?

A Really Big Fieldtrip???

We have made a very big decision!

We want to take three lucky kids (those who have the best attendance and work the hardest in class) on a trip to see the Taj Mahal. On the way there, they will see their good friends Laxmi, Santosh and Kiran who were the inspiration to One!’s beginning. They live in Ghandinagar, just outside of Ahmadabad in Gujarat. From there, the trip will continue to Jaipur to see the palaces and ride the elephants. Then finally, the trip will end in Agra where the kids will get to see the building that is in soooooo many pictures!!

Though we say that the trip is for those that have the best attendance and concentrate the most, we have privately already chosen the kids—of course the three oldest. Let’s hope just the opportunity, makes the children work all that much harder!
