SUMMER GAMES!!!

Since, we were out of the school when summer (April-May) began (due to the renovations), we decided to make it a summer of fun! And of course art, drama, dance, puzzles, English, sports, games…

Every day involved a yoga session that was taught by Jen, who is training to be a Yoga instructor. The children quite enjoyed this for a month, but were glad to return to more hyper exercises. We will involve yoga into our routine periodically as it teaches the children many good qualities...control, patience,

Many days involved the many puzzles that we have received as donations. Our collection allows the kids to work in groups of only two or three now. The children still have to work together though, a trait that most of them haven’t mastered yet. Towards the end of the summer though, we noticed a huge difference in the children’s ability to visualize the pieces and fit them together, as well as working with each other to accomplish the same goal.

We also chose games that achieved the same purpose. We played many music games as a special treat. Often when the game was over, the children just kept on dancing and their smiles kept growing larger and larger!

At the end of the summer we had a small celebration—basically an excuse to have a party and give away clothes to the children. That day we had nearly 50 children and 5 mothers and 10 volunteers! We played games, danced, ate CHICKEN BIRYANI, and visited with friends! It was a wonderful way to end a wonderful summer!

Indian Volunteers

We would like to give recognition to the continuous enthusiastic support of Rajiv Pinto. He has been volunteering with us for 10 months now and has never faltered. He comes two to four times a week to volunteer teaching the children while at the same time starting his own career in architecture and interior design. He has been an excellent role model for the children in general, but especially the boys!

Thank you RAJIV for your awesome SUPPORT!

We are also lucky to have a new volunteer from Mumbai, Akshay Mahajan. Akshay is a student going into university, and wanted to make good use of his summer. As volunteers Jen and Alysha say “Akshay is AWESOME with the children!”. He is very good at explaining things and captivating the children’s attention. Akshay will not likely be able to volunteer on such a continual basis when he begins college, but has made a permanent mark with the children and has managed to teach them a lot in a very short time. We have been very lucky to have Akshay with us and hope that he will keep involved with One!. Thank you AKSHAY for your incredible HELP!

The summer brought a new program to One! — local artists to come once a week and volunteer to teach our children. Miss Anupa arranged the whole program, and artist Sarita came to teach the children twice. The children had a great time and created some amazing work! What a great opportunity for the kids of One!!

Alysha!!!

Alysha has been a wonderful addition to the One! team. In a very short time, she has really molded her place and has created a wonderful partnership with our experienced volunteer Jen. Together they make excellent decisions and are very efficient!

Alysha is a very loving and nurturing woman, and the children are lucky to have her!!
