School Begins
The public school year began on the 14th of June in Mumbai, but One! had a one week head start. After one week of holiday, the children were more than ready! It took a couple days to get their energy level down for them to concentrate, but they got back into routine quickly. Once again we are having problems with the school room we rent...but luckily this time we haven’t paid any money yet so we aren’t losing anything. The application was not properly filled out by the principal of the school so it has been delayed. We should have it very soon. So we taught out of the apartment. Three classes: Vinita’s group of the older children (about 15 children), Pallavi’s group of the kindergarten children (about 20 children) and the baby group (about 6 children). It was crowded, but really nice! With the help of a local organization in Mumbai, we managed to register 12 children into Grade 1: Kokila, Kishor, Rajeshree, Kishan, Ajay, Mona, Sunil, Rukshar, Saif, Manju, Geeta, Ravi. They have now attended for four weeks and seem to be doing great. They are studying in the Hindi language. This is a huge accomplishment and we hope that the parents will make the commitment to keeping the children in school. We have ten new children that have been attending classes. Their attendance isn’t completely steady, but with time I am sure that will change. They have already started mixing with the other children and taken part in a lot of fun learning activities! |

Fundraiser #7
My how time flies and flies. Can you believe that it is already the 7th fundraiser and that we are currently in our 4th year. Wow! Who would have thought. Anyway, since this is actually written before the fundraiser, it is a little strange. But whoever turned down a thank you in advance! So thank you to everyone who is going to attend. It should prove to be a very special night celebrating many many things in our One! extended family: A Birthday Party for Patrick Cadieux who wanted to celebrated by inviting everyone to donate to us, Yeah and Happy Birthday! Congratulations to Tara and Edd (supporters before One! even existed!) for their recent wedding. It is also my birthday, and what better way of celebrating than with friends and family and One!
