Treat a person as he is and he will remain as he is.
Treat him as he could be and he will become what he should be.

Vandana
Through Sandeep’s successes in such a short time, we decided that we needed more people like him around.
In the middle of April, Vandana Karothia joined the One! Team, with enthusiasm, as the second teacher. She joined in one of the most difficult times to control the children-the summer holdiday. Vandana survived through the Summer Fun Celebration and the girls bickering and conniving all day long! Vandana is glad that classes start again in June, but all the same has enjoyed getting to know the children and is looking forward to making her mark in whatever way she can.

Decision About Baroda
|
|
We picked up the boys from Baroda toward the end of April for the summer school break. They all had quite a successful year. Sanju passed with honours; Jayenti managed to pass all of his 3rd grade English classes and get honours in Hindi, Gujarati and Math; and Roshan and Pappu passed all of their classes.
Communication from Baroda and Acrodex of Edmonton revealed that the numbers of children being sponsored at the school would need to remain at four and not be increased as was previously planned. Due to the boys concerns about going back to the school on their own without more of their friends going, as well as other factors, we sat down with Jayenti and his mother to determine what to do for the following year. It took some
time for Jayenti to open up and be honest, but when he finally felt comfortable, he made it very clear that he would much rather stay in Mumbai with the rest of the One! Children. He indicated that he thought he could learn just as much as being away at the boarding school. The other boys were approached and enthusiastically agreed with Jayenti. We are hoping that the boys will indeed keep up their strong educational showing.
We would like to thank Acrodex of Edmonton , as well as the Baroda School for giving us this incredible opportunity over the last year. The Guru and staff at the school are doing an incredible job. The boys have grown from the experience tremendously, and so has One! as an organization.

29 Inch TV!!! ...and More!!!
|
|
John of the USA who had been working in Mumbai for some time, befriended One! and made an incredible donation – a 29 Inch Television. It makes a big difference when the children are watching movies – before they would watch on a laptop! Along with the TV, John also bought a new stereo with VCD (Video CD) capabilities.
Mumbai Connection (an organization of Ex-Patriot women that has been in contact with One! for over three years now) also made a donation of a VHS player. The children are now all set up and love any chance they get to watch a movie or even cartoons!

Stephanie Lee, who has been volunteering with One! Off and on during that last few months has also given a monetary donation and collected items for the children from her acquaintances. Vanasobhin Kasemsri gave a monetary donation as well.
The school had important visitors from New York. Tracey, who is a Mrs. Santa Claus to the children, brought her husband Glen to see the work being done by One! True to form, she brought presents for everyone.
The children also received presents from Mya. Mya was in India to visit the organizations that Children’s Hope sponsors in Mumbai, one of which is One!
The One! Children are very lucky to have so many people who care about them.
