Volunteers — New and Experienced!
Time to say good-bye to another great round of volunteers. After more than eight months, we had to send Meghan on her way in May, and it was very hard for the children. Both Cindy (USA) and Cilla (Sweden) contributed a lot in a very short time and spread a lot of love to the children. Ceri was a blessing over the last couple months as she joined unexpectedly and filled in wherever she was needed. Her energy was addictive! When she left in June, her husband’s company treated the children to a Domino’s Pizza Party. The children didn’t think that much of the pizza but thought it was fun trying something different! We would like to welcome Erica Viegas (Canada)and Johanna Claesson (Sweden) who have already fit themselves in and started making a difference! |

The Support that Makes it All Happen
One! International has been so fortunate in the support that has come from individual donations, corporate sponsors, school classes, gifts in kind, volunteers, and fundraising assistance. The core assistance remains the regular donation of $30 per child per month that comes from the Give-a-Child-a-Chance (GCC) program. Since the last newsletter 10 additional children have been sponsored with one additional general monthly sponsorship. Three additional children will be sponsored within the next couple of months. The new members of the GCC family are: Mona, Audrey and Tessa, Yoga for Today, Yoga Lounge in Canmore, Pala from the UK, Memo from Texas, Kuno from the US and Kathleen’s boys. There are now 46 children sponsored plus regular monthly donations equaling to 6 additional children.
Although we do lose sponsors due to changed circumstances, our GCC program continues to grow. Thank you GCC sponsors. |
Houses!!!
What an exciting time for One! International. Finally, after four years struggling to convince the families that they need to move into more permanent housing, the following families have made the move:
Meena’s Family (Raoti, Arun, Anjula) These families join Nilesh and Lila’s Family (Jayenti, Ramoo, Sanju, Kishor) who have been in houses for a long time. Only Fatima’s Family (Reshma, Bismilla, Dilshad, Mallika, Rukshar, Saif, Muskaan), Kanchan’s Family (Rakesh, Roshan, Manda, Pappu, Kokila, Kaajol, Hritick), Aruna’s Family (Parkash, Mukesh, Mona, Sunil, Anil) and a couple of newer families remain in our fight to permanent housing. Even these families are debating the option, so hopefully by the end of this year we will have more good news! Moving into permanent housing is important for many reasons but mainly that it gives the children a healthier, more permanent and safe environment to grow up in. We are very proud of our families for taking this big step! |
