Fundraisers

The middle of January 2007 was a very busy time in Sherwood Park.

We had THREE Fundraisers in the space of one week.
On January 20, 2007 we hosted our own Bi-Annual Fundraiser and had over 100 attendees. Everyone was excited to hear about the possible expansion to a new area of Mumbai, and of course to hear the updates regarding the children. We are so grateful to the people whose ongoing donations make the fundraisers possible and lucrative for One!’s children.
Thank You to: Bess, Bedford, India Gardens, Spice Centre, Spirit Quest Liquor Store, Gord, Diane, Aliya Foods, Dance Expression, Colleen, Tara, Ed, Lorette, Roger, George, and to all those who contributed items for the Silent Auction.
At noon on January 26, 2007, Helen hosted a fundraising luncheon for One! Helen cooked a wonderful meal for over 15 friends who contributed generously by buying items at a Silent Auction. Helen has been a supporter of One! International from the very beginning and has also volunteered in India.
Later, in the evening, Yoga For Today took advantage of Tania being home and had their annual fundraiser a month early. Attendees enjoyed hearing about the activities in India from Tania directly. Yoga For Today has supported One! from the beginning. Everyone enjoyed the food, especially the Indian food prepared by Tina. The Silent Auction was also successful. Several new people were added to the ONE! family.

Without the support of EVERYONE involved in these events-helping or attending, we would not be able to do as much for the children.

Indian Status

Our registration in India has finally taken a step forward. After months and months of...waiting...and waiting...and waiting. Tracey Jackson of New York put us in touch with the very influential and resourceful Bunker Roy of Rajasthan who managed to call the right people and push the right buttons to make things happen!

On March 1st 2007, we became a foreign Liaison Office in India working for the betterment of the lives of street children and their families!

There are still a lot of legal procedures that need to be followed, but we are well on our way!!

What Would We Do Without Volunteers?!?

It was very sad in February when we had to say good-bye to Sarah and Rachel Pennell of Edmonton. They spent three months with the children in Khar and though the experience may have been rocky along the way, there is no doubt that they gave all that they possibly could. Both these ladies have hearts overflowing with love and the children miss them so much. A day doesn’t pass where one or the other lady is not asked about!

Shreena Dasani from England was the next to join us in the middle of February. Shreena surprised us all with her quick grasp of teaching and her amazing poise and maturity for her age. Though she only joined us for six weeks, Shreena achieved months of work!

Alysha Lust rejoined us (she first volunteered in 2003) for three weeks. We were excited to see what she thought of how we had grown—she was very positive and thrived in the new environment. She revamped our health program, set the curriculum for our new health class, and spread love...and all in just three weeks!!!

Taylor Templeton and Nick Taylor were with us for only two weeks and it was a shame. They both have lots of love to give and the children were instantly connected to both of them.
