Staff Conflict...

Of course it was inevitable, but politics finally showed its ugly face among the staff of One!. Everyone was working peacefully together up until the middle of June, but after that things slowly started to change along with attitudes. Miscommunications and a few small incidents joined together to create an explosion at the beginning of August. Though the issues were addressed, some of the staff felt that the family atmosphere that once existed amongst them could not be recreated. In an instant decision, both Sandeep and Ajeet left without warning one day, and Sushama and Mahendra were then left to pick up the pieces. Sushama made a valiant effort to make it work and be able to continue the work she loved, but she simply was unhappy. She resigned at the beginning of September. Mahendra was then the only one remaining. He decided to take a holiday, and clear his mind. Thankfully, he will rejoin with new energy and new workmates at the beginning of October. They were a fabulous foursome that did wonderful things together and it was a shame to see it come to an end.

…Ignites Great Change!

As a result of the unwanted politics and chaos amongst the staff, One! needed to hire new staff. As a result of a five day add in the Times of India, the response was fantastic.

All candidates were interviewed and we also ran mock teaching sessions for the teachers and mock client interviews for the social workers. The selection process was very difficult, but in the end we found exactly what we needed.

At the Khar school, we opted to hire one social worker and three teachers to add to our experienced team of Vinita (social worker with us for 3 and a half years), Mahendra (teacher with us for one year) and Jayanti (teacher striving to be a social worker with us for six months).

The social worker we hired was Anil who comes with over 35 years of experience in the field. He has been government recognized for his efforts. He will be primarily be working with gaining the trust of the older boys and dealing with getting government certificates and legal status for our families.

Smita is a qualified teacher with a Bachelor’s Degree in Teaching. She is fresh out of school with little experience, but has poise and professionalism that the children will surely model after.

We also hired Kishore, Jayanti’s husband. Though we were worried about relationships in the workplace, both have acted completely professionally and showed no favoritism. Kishore doesn’t have any experience in teaching but has learned very fast. His smile is infectious and he is always full of energy.

Diksha was the third teacher we hired for Khar. Her gentle demeanour and clear drive to succeed covered her lack of experience. Within days she was jumping in to every aspect of the job.

In Nallasopara we decided to start out with one social worker and two teachers. Susheela, though not trained in social work, thought that her civil service training would lead her in the right direction. She is struggling to fit in and learn the ropes, but is clearly determined to make it work.

Kirti is a trained teacher (Diploma) and has a brilliant bubbly personality. The kids were instantly drawn to her and seem to love her classes.

The second teacher that we hired in Nallasopara was Sunita. Sunita doesn’t speak any English, but is determined to learn. She is a trained Montessori teacher and has a fantastic blend of discipline and caring in her manner.

Good Luck Everyone! Welcome to the One! International team!!!
